Sofia - Mrs Hillary Rodham Clinton spent the 23rd anniversary of her wedding to President Clinton, visiting Bulgaria and mentioned her husband just once in a 20-minute speech. Her aides insist the trip has nothing to do with anxiety about the Monica Lewinsky affair, which prompted the House of Representatives last week to launch the third presidential impeachment inquiry in US history. The trip was long planned, they say.
Mrs Clinton, addressing a high-profile Women in the 21st Century conference, spoke of democracy, human rights and better life for women. She also used the opportunity to hammer home the position of the West on Serbia's crackdown against Albanian separatists in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo, 220 miles to the west of Sofia. "Those of us with a voice and the power to use it must speak out for the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo," she said.
