Boxing: European light-welterweight champion Ray Moylette came from behind against Latvian Arturs Ahmetous on Friday, to book his place in the last 32 of the AIBA World Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Azerbaijan on Friday.
The Mayoman, who boxes out of St Anne’s BC, will now meet Manoj Kumar of India on Sunday.
Moylette was 8-7 down heading into the third and final round but rallied to land eight scoring blows and win 16-11.
Ahmetous was 5-4 up at the end of the first and both boxers shared the second 3-3.
It is Ireland’s third win from three in Baku this week and means five Irishmen in action on Sunday, when Moylette, Joe Ward, Roy Sheehan, Michael Conlon and Con Sheehan step between the ropes.
Darren O’Neill and David Oliver Joyce will be involved in last-64 bouts tomorrow versus Norway and Iran respectively, while team captain Ken Egan, Paddy Barnes and John Joe Nevin fight on Monday.
