Safety experts are examining a worksite on the M1 motorway tonight after a 24-year-old man was crushed to death.
Health and Safety Authority (HSA) launched an inquiry after one man died and two were injured in an incident on the M1 motorway at Gibstown around Dundalk, Co Louth.
A spokesman for the HSA said: "Two inspectors are on the site and are beginning an investigation."
It is believed that a concrete beam was being lifted into place across a new section near the end of the M1 motorway when a support collapsed crushing a man underneath.
The 24-year-old man was removed to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk where he was pronounced dead. The two injured men are being treated in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where their condition has been described as stable.
Dundalk Gardai were called to the site shortly after 1pm today. A garda spokesman said it was now a matter for the safety experts to look into.
The HSA said experts were still investigating the site and they could not confirm yet how the death had occurred.
