The mother of a Cork woman who claims her father raped and indecently assaulted her over a six- or seven-year period in the 1980s has denied she had an affair with his friend.
She also told Mr Justice Patrick Smith and the jury at the Central Criminal Court she could not remember if the accused had served divorce papers on her before her daughter made a complaint to gardai.
The 47-year-old man denies eight charges of rape and indecent assault on dates from 1981 to 1989 at addresses in Cork and in Co Kildare. He has pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent assault on his now 24-year-old daughter.
The alleged victim's mother could not recall if she was told in 1984 whether her daughter's hymen was intact after she was examined at Cork University Hospital (then Regional Hospital). She had been referred there when she complained of pain in the vaginal area.
The family's doctor said he had referred her to the hospital in accordance with Southern Health Board guidelines on suspected sexual abuse but he had never received a report, though the SHB was "normally copious with paper reports".
Det Sgt Gerard McCarthy told Mr Michael Durack SC, prosecuting, that he met the accused in an English police station by appointment in relation to his daughter's allegations. The accused denied the rape allegations and came back voluntarily to Ireland to be charged.
The hearing continues.
