A mother is due to appear in a British court charged with the murder of her four-month-old baby boy who died in a house fire.

Danielle Wails (21) will appear before magistrates in Newcastle accused of the murder of her son Alexander Gallon.

The child died in a fire at a two-bedroom property in Cowgate, Newcastle, on Sunday night.

Neighbours were alerted to the fire but could not break the front door down; when a fire crew managed to get through Ms Wails stumbled out with her baby trapped inside.

The baby, who was found on the floor of the property, was taken to Newcastle General Hospital but died of his injuries.
