A 37-year-old woman and her nine-month-old daughter were killed on yesterday when they hit by a car during the Rally of Vaudoises, it emerged today.
An unnamed competitor careered into the woman and her daughter, who was in a pushchair, after the car encountered mechanical problems on the 10th stage of the event between Montreux and Bex.
A 21-year-old male spectator was also hurt and is in hospital in Lausanne.
Swissinfo.org reports today that the public prosecutor's office have opened an investigation into the safety procedures at the event, which is part of the Swiss Rally Championship.
