With a cry of "Howya! Howya! Howya!", Stephen Patrick Morrissey greeted his Dublin fans on Thursday night, letting us know that - despite his Manchester upbringing - he was really one of us. This was a sort of homecoming for the former Smith; he's been living in self-imposed exile in LA and hasn't released an album in four years. He doesn't have daffodils sticking out of his pockets these days, but he did produce a banana during Boy Racer, dangling it provocatively around his crotch before throwing it into the audience. Dusting the cobwebs off November Spawned A Monster, Alma Matters and Hairdresser On Fire, and exhuming such Smiths tunes as Meat Is Murder and Is It Really So Strange?, Morrissey evoked an innocent time when everything about him really mattered, but as he left the stage to the strains of Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, it felt like we had seen a shadow boxing clever.
