Cricket:Eoin Morgan savoured his first taste of Test cricket with England today but his exploits were overshadowed as Jonathan Trott made a big undefeated hundred. On 362 for four England eased into a position of dominance on day one of the first Test against Bangladesh.

Trott, who came to the crease in the fifth over of the day, reached stumps on 175 not out and his second Test century formed the backbone of an imposing total.

Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan, having recovered from chickenpox in time to take his place in the tourists’ side, won the toss and opted to field first in overcast conditions but any assistance for the bowlers did not last long.

Alastair Cook, having scored two centuries on the winter tour to Bangladesh, failed to cash in this time as he fell lbw to Shahadat Hossain for seven. Returning captain Andrew Strauss (83) and the incoming Trott then added 181 in serene fashion before the former dragged a Mahmudullah delivery on to his stumps with a century beckoning.

Bangladesh briefly threatened to force their way back into contention when Kevin Pietersen (18) and Ian Bell (17) came and went for modest scores, but debutant Morgan was in at six and accompanied Trott until the close.

He indulged himself in his favoured reverse sweep on the 27th ball of his innings to strike his first boundary in test cricket but otherwise batted with restraint to reach 40 not out.

Earlier, Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes was forced to leave the field after he was struck on the helmet at short-leg by a fierce pull from Morgan.
