A CALL for greater resources "to quell the rising tide of indiscipline in our schools" was agreed on the final day of the Ulster Teachers' Union conference on Saturday. Delegates also urged parents to support schools in maintaining a high quality of education for all children.
In a separate resolution the conference instructed the executive as a matter of urgency to consider what form of non selective education it wished to propose for Northern Ireland. The previous day, Labour's shadow education spokesman, Mr Tony Worthington, indicated that selection could be ended if there was a change of government.
Following a debate on teacher stress, delegates urged the employers to offer teachers the opportunity of a free, periodical medical examination.
