JUNIOR CERT GERMAN:IT WAS Glee and flash-mobs for Junior Cert German students yesterday in a paper that got a mixed response from teachers.

“I have some criticisms of this paper,” said Patrick Kavanagh of the ASTI. “Text C looked quite different to previous years and the reading section on flash-mobs took quite a while to figure out.”

Almost 10,000 students took the subject yesterday at higher and ordinary levels.

Some students struggled with a difficult comprehension on the subject of a newly-published homework notebook diary.

“Some of the language in this section was a bit more difficult than students would be used to,” said Scatha Ní Fhearghail, a TUI subject representative and teacher at Mulroy College in Milford, Co Donegal.

The rest of the comprehensions, one of which featured in the hit US TV high school series Glee, were considered “manageable”.

Both higher and ordinary level students do the same listening comprehension, which counts for 40 per cent of the overall mark, and yesterday’s section was welcomed for its clarity and pace.
