Gardaí are studying missing persons records as part of efforts to identify human remains found in the Dublin Mountains.

A local man found a skull in a field at a secluded wooded location in Piperstown, about five miles from Tallaght. The location was sealed off yesterday and underwent examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardaí believe the remains are those of a man who died in recent months. They believe the deceased may be a man reported missing from the south Dublin area about two months ago.

Dental records are being checked in an effort to confirm the person’s identity. Garda sources said while the inquiry was at an early stage they do not believe foul play was involved in the person’s death.
