A Co Armagh holidaymaker who went missing in Tenerife after discharging himself from hospital on the island has turned up safe and well.

Authorities on the island had been concerned about Mr Declan Joseph Finnegan (35), who did not have his passport with him, and local police had mounted a search.

However, Mr Finnegan turned up at the consulate earlier today.

He had been taken to hospital while holidaying in the resort of Playa de Las Americas in the south of the island with his partner and their children.

He discharged himself from hospital and vanished for four days after the emergency services made arrangements to transfer him to another hospital in the north of the island for further treatment.

Photographs of the missing man had been sent to Tenerife and passed to the local police who had launched an unofficial search.

Mr Finnegan's partner had flown back to Northern Ireland with their children while he was in hospital because they were not able to travel alone.

Before he was found she was understood to have been preparing to return to Tenerife with Mr Finnegan's brother to join the search.
