GAA:Saturday's Minor Football Championship quarter-final between Down and Dublin at Breffni Park has been postponed at the request of the Down County Board due to swine flu (H1N1) fears.

Today’s GAA statement said “the postponement was granted in the context of a serious viral infection within the Down minor panel which has affected the overwhelming majority of the Down players”.

The Association added that it generally doesn’t grant postponements on the basis of illness to players.

However, in this case the Central Competition Control Committee (CCCC) took medical advice, and considered the sheer number of players involved, plus the general concerns expressed with respect to the swine flu pandemic, and decided postponing the match in unique circumstances was the only logical course of action.

No date has yet been confirmed for a re-fixture.
