The British Defence Secretary warned yesterday that a paramilitary threat still existed in Northern Ireland. Mr Geoffrey Hoon said while he welcomed political progress, there were still obvious security concerns.

The Minister, who was visiting troops at Clooney Barracks, Derry, hinted that a reduced threat could lead to a reduction in the numbers of soldiers in Northern Ireland
