Belgrade - The main opposition candidate in this month's Serbian election widened his lead over President Slobodan Milosevic in an opinion poll, but a Western rights group said yesterday the vote was unlikely to be fair.

The survey published by the independent daily Blic said Mr Vojislav Kostunica of the Democratic Party of Serbia enjoyed the support of 40 per cent against 22 per cent for Mr Milosevic.
