Belgrade - A poll conducted this month showed the Yugoslav President, Mr Slobodan Milosevic, lagging behind the joint candidate of 15 opposition parties for next month's presidential elections, independent radio B2-92 said yesterday.

According to the survey, Mr Vojislav Kostunica, candidate of the 15-party democratic opposition bloc, would get 35 per cent of the vote and Mr Milosevic 23 per cent.

The survey was conducted earlier this month by the Institute of Social Sciences on 1,700 respondents from Serbia, excluding Kosovo, after the names of the main presidential candidates were announced. Yugoslav presidential and federal elections and Serbian local elections have been scheduled for September 24th.
