Stockholm - Food shortages in North Korea are so severe that millions of people may soon starve to death, a Swedish aid worker said yesterday after visiting the isolated communist state.

Mr Stefan Holmstrom, first secretary of the Swedish Organisation for Individual Relief, said emaciated children were a common sight, with many suffering from muscular degeneration and hair loss.
