Middlesbrough are continuing talks with First Division Derby over the proposed transfer of Malcolm Christie and Chris Riggott.
Derby are in dire financial difficulties and keen to off-load some of their higher earners.
However, the Rams are also determined not to let striker Christie and centre-half Riggott leave too cheaply.
Derby's financial director Andrew Mackenzie told the club's official website, www.dcfc.co.uk: "We are still talking to Middlesbrough about the two players.
