IT'S the 26th century and as a fighter-pilot of the Earth's Ocean Alliance your mission is to destroy the aquatic-based aliens who threaten to flood the planet. From the enemy-infested passageways of a sunken battleship to the heart of the underwater alien complex every fathom brings a new danger.

And it's all done in a dazing multimedia display which takes full advantage of today's most powerful PCs. Being set in an underwater environment, Deadly Tide automatically has a very distinctive atmosphere and you get the feeling that no money was spared in its production. Deadly Tide oozes quality.

Your task is simple shoot at whatever shoots at you. For most of the time you are led along gently by the programme but you can, on occasion, make the decision on where to explore next, whether you are navigating the Hydra or in your aquatic combat suit. Purists will argue that being guided along removes gameplay but Deadly Tide can be forgiven perhaps for two reasons.

First, the graphics are outstanding, and more importantly not all of the decision-making is done for you. Coupled with that is the fact that Deadly Tide is so packed with action at times you don't even notice the fact that you are being nudged in the right direction.

To experience this underwater adventure at its best close the curtains and dim the lights, increase the volume on your speakers and immerse yourself in the depths of the deep blue sea.

You won't want to come up for air.
