Reports this week that Microsoft’s Xbox game console was facing recall across Japan are incorrect, according to a statement issued by the company this morning.
The Xbox Japan website reported that Microsoft Customer Care Japan had received a number of complaints from customers reporting scratches to the outside edge of some game disks after use in the Xbox game consoles.
The company said the scratching was primarily a cosmetic circumstance and made no difference to the performance of the games. But it did step up its efforts to deal with complaints, offering to repair or replace any defective products.
Yesterday, it said it would unconditionally replace all hardware and any damaged software. "We do not consider this a recall," Microsoft spokeswoman Ms Midori Takahashi said.
Microsoft is betting billions of dollars on the Xbox games console, which will go on sale in the Republic from midnight on March 13th at Virgin Megastores.
