A Dublin Labour Party MEP, Ms Bernie Malone, has called for an investigation by the Director of Consumer Affairs into why the price of beef has not dropped. She said the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Richard Bruton, should instigate the inquiry.

Ms Malone said a recent ICMSA survey which showed that some beef prices had risen, despite the slump in cattle prices due to the BSE scare, was very alarming.
