EU proposals to liberalise postal services would devastate Irish post offices, according to Fianna Fail MEP Mr Pat "the Cope" Gallagher.
"Liberalising direct mail services would result in private operators cherry picking lucrative urban markets while leaving rural villages with a paltry and inadequate service," Mr Gallagher said in a statement. He was commenting on a recommendation from the European Council that direct mail services should be liberalised from January 1st, 2001.
