A Co Meath man has been acquitted by a Central Criminal Court jury on a charge that he raped his sister-in-law 15 years ago. The 40-year-old man denied that he raped his 19-year-old sister-in-law on a date between January and April 1985. He said in evidence that her allegation was untrue.

The woman, now 33, agreed in evidence that she first made her rape complaint to gardai in September 1998, just two days after her sister began legal action against the accused man, from whom she had separated.
