BUILDING regulations are to be changed so that all new homes will in future include measures to reduce risks from the radioactive gas, radon, according to the Department of the Environment.
All foundations will have to include a means, such as a sump, of removing radon gas from the substructure and homes in high radon areas will also require a plastic layer to help keep radon out of dwellings.
The announcement follows the publication two days ago of a radon survey which showed a high incidence of radon in the northwest and southeast.
