Golf:The Maguires twins, Lisa and Leona, have pulled out of the British Ladies Open strokeplay championship but fellow Curtis Cup player Danielle McVeigh will be on show to defend her title which begins on Wednesday at Tenby in West Wales.

After a busy season the 15-year-old twins will take a break. Recently the Slieve Russell golfers competed in the AIB Irish Open at Killeen Castle with Lisa ending the week as leading amateur.

The Cavan pair immediately travelled to Royal Belfast for the British Girls Open Championship where Leona reached the quarter-finals and Leona got the semis.

They are due to represent Ireland in next month’s Home Internationals at Whitchurch in South Wales.

Such are the demands on their time they also pulled out of the British Ladies matchplay championship at Ganton in June, while Leona had been selected to play for Europe in Junior Ryder Cup match at Gleneagles next month but withdrew from that event too.
