Limerick hurling manager Justin McCarthy comfortably survived a vote of no-confidence this evening and looks set to remain at the helm to see out the second of his two-year term in charge.

Despite the majority of last year’s senior panel refusing to play under him, McCarthy received 63.85 per cent of the vote after a secret ballot at an emergency county board meeting held at Claughaun GAA clubhouse.

Prior to the vote, Donal Morrissey from Ahane - one of five clubs to submit the motion - said that the crisis had gone on for five months.

“It has become a shambles and tonight we have the chance to arrest the rapid decline in support for our hurlers. I urge all delegates to vote and that there be no abstentions,” he said.

There were, however, two abstentions from the 133, while one vote was spoilt, leaving 47 in favour of the motion and 83 against.
