The German lawyer representing Ms Roisin McAliskey says she can produce witnesses to prove her client was not in Germany at the time of the Osnabruck bombing. But she said she does not want the witnesses interviewed by the RUC because she doesn't trust the force.
Interviewed on RTE yesterday, Ms Elke Nill said: "I know we have witnesses who can state that Roisin was at home and was at work. But you know we are in a quite difficult situation right now. I do not want the witnesses to be questioned by the RUC because I just do not trust the RUC."
Asked why this was the case, she said: "I think they have no interest in getting really true statements. . . They sent the photos of Roisin to Germany. They asked the Germans to compare the photos. This initiative comes from the RUC, and Roisin told her lawyer that when she was in the prison in Belfast [Castlereagh interrogation centre] when she was interrogated for four days . . . they told her: `we will get you'."
Asked what she believed they meant by that, Ms Nill said her client "understands that it was a threat. They want to tell her they want to give her the understanding: we will get you for something, you even haven't done". Ms Nill said the only conclusion she could reach from Ms McAliskey's file was that the impetus for the extradition came from the RUC rather than the German federal police.
