McAleese escapes injury in road accident

The President, Mary McAleese, was involved in a minor road accident in Co Meath last night, but was not hurt.

According to reports, Mrs McAleese's official car was struck by a wheel that flew off a passing articulated lorry near Enfield at about 11.30pm.

She was being driven to her private home near Rathcroghan, Co Roscommon.

A presidential spokesperson said the car suffered minor damage and there were no injuries.
