JAKARTA - A town square in central Java has been painted three times in recent weeks in a political colour war between the mayor and the local chapter of the Muslim led United Development Party (PPP), a report said yesterday.

The PPP chairman in the town of Solo, Mr Mudrick Sangidu, saw red late December when the square was painted yellow, the colour of the ruling Golkar party. He gave the order for his party supporters to paint the square white on January 8th.
