An Bord Pleanála has asked the developers of a proposed €300 million marina and housing scheme at Greystones harbour in Co Wicklow to submit additional information on the scheme.
The board also said that it might reopen the oral hearing into the project after the deadline for additional information passes on November 6th next.
Last month the board deferred a decision on the controversial project proposed by Wicklow County Council and its private-sector partner, the Sispar consortium, comprising John Sisk and Park Developments.
The council is seeking to have the Victorian harbour rebuilt in exchange for the housing and commercial opportunities associated with the scheme. Local members of the Greystones Protection and Development Association, among others, objected at a Bord Pleanála oral hearing.
The appeals board informed the council yesterday that it was not satisfied, among other issues, that detailed design of a cement batching plant should be done at a later stage; that it "might not" be satisfied with the approach to an old unlicensed dump located on the site; that it was not satisfied that "beach nourishment" material could be brought on site by road on an ongoing basis; that it was concerned at the possibility of traffic congestion; and that the bulk of the development in parts created an unacceptable change from the existing architecture and urban design.
Fiachra Etchingham, of the Greystones Protection and Development Association, said that the number and importance of the items which An Bord Pleanála wanted the council to reconsider amounted to a new application.
A spokesman for the developers told The Irish Times that the board's views would be studied carefully.
