Manila - The Philippine Supreme Court yesterday pulled Mrs Imelda Marcos, the widow of the country's one-time dictator Ferdinand Marcos, back from the brink of a 12-year prison term by overturning her conviction for corruption.

The 69-year-old former first lady who achieved global notoriety for her massive shoe collection, was quoted by her lawyer as saying: "I am overwhelmed with joy at my vindication," after the country's highest court reversed a 1993 court ruling convicting her of violating the country's corrupt practices law.
