It appeared that a deep-seated Department of Justice veto was reasserting itself over the efforts by dismissed a Garda superintendent, Mr William Geary, to clear his name, Mr Maurice Manning, Fine Gael leader in the House, said. There seemed to be a certain amount of backsliding going on, he said.
He believed the view of most senators was that whatever had happened 70 years ago, they would like to see this case reopened in Mr Geary's lifetime.
The House leader, Mr Donie Cassidy, said he would arrange time for a debate.
