Manila bans Nobel laureate

MANILA - The Philippines confirmed yesterday that the Nobel peace laureate, Mr Jose Ramos Horta, had been banned from entering the country, because his presence would be an "embarrassment". A presidential national security adviser said the East Timorese resistance leader was in the category of foreigners who "may cause disturbance" during the November 25th summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Co operation forum.
