Man taken from sea off Clare coast

A man who fell into the sea off the Co Clare coast has been located and taken by coastguard helicopter to hospital.

The man, who is understood to have been fishing earlier this morning, fell into the water at Ballyreen, some three miles north of Doolin.

He was later spotted in the sea by the Shannon rescue helicopter and brought the University Hospital Galway.

His condition is not yet known.

A Valentia Coastguard spokesman said the service received an emergency call at about 9.15am.

He said the Aran Island lifeboat, the Shannon rescue helicopter and lifeboats from Dollin were tasked in the operation.

The man was recovered from the sea shortly before 10am.
