An Offaly man who stole a condom machine from a pub avoided a conviction yesterday.

An Offaly man who stole a condom machine from a pub avoided a conviction yesterday.

Judge William Harnett did not convict the made after hearing that he had paid a €600 donation as ordered.

The case had been adjourned at Kilkenny District Court for the 19-year-old to make the payment to his local St Vincent de Paul Society.

Mr John Kearns, Willow Hill, Woodfield, Birr, Co Offaly, admitted stealing the condom machine worth €200 from toilets in Matt the Miller's pub in Kilkenny city last August.

Mr Michael Lanigan, defending, said Mr Kearns thought it would be a great joke to take the condoms.CCTV cameras captured him leaving the pub with the machine under his arm.
