Man stabbed in back by car thieves in Meath

A man (20) is recovering in hospital in Dublin this morning after he was stabbed by thieves attempting to steal a car in Dunboyne, Co Meath, last night.

The man was travelling in a taxi with a friend when he noticed two youths attempting to steal a car in the Rosedele area shortly after 3 a.m.

When he tried to stop the theft, one of the youths plunged a screwdriver into his back and ran to a nearby car where two of his friends were waiting.

The victim was taken to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The car the thieves are understood to have used to escape was later found abandoned near Clonee.
