A man in his early 20s was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast yesterday evening having suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle.
The man was shot outside a house in the Lagmore area of west Belfast, shortly after 21.15pm.
A spokeswoman for the PSNI said his condition was not believed to be life threatening.
A motive for the incident has yet to be established, but police in Northern Ireland said that a paramilitary style shooting is one line of enquiry which is being investigated by the PSNI.
