A man in his thirties has been shot in what police describe as a paramilitary-style assault in Co Down.

A man in his thirties has been shot in what police describe as a paramilitary-style assault in Co Down.

The shooting occurred on Forkhill road in Newry late last night.

Four masked men forced the victim into a van and drove him around for some time before taking him out and shooting him in the right ankle.

The man is said to be in a stable condition in hospital this morning.
