Man shot in armed Wicklow robbery

Gardaí are continuing to investigate an armed robbery on the Carlow/Wicklow border last night in which a man was assaulted.

Six men entered the man's property in Rathduffmore near Hacketstown in Co Carlow at approximately 10pm armed with a firearm.

The man sustained injuries to his face and a gunshot wound to his arm during the robbery.

He attempted to make his way to a neighbour’s house to raise the alarm but collapsed.

He was later found by neighbours who contacted the emergency services.

The man was brought to Naas General Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Gardaí said there was no report of anything taken from the house.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
