A 32-year-old man shot dead outside his west Dublin home shortly before 4 pm today by a lone gunman.

A 32-year-old man shot dead outside his west Dublin home shortly before 4 pm today by a lone gunman.

The victim was rushed to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital after the shooting at Hazelwood Crescent, Blanchardstown, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A garda spokesman said the gunman is described as being 172cm tall and aged between 25 and 35 years old.

A car used in the shooting was found burnt out nearby in Meadow Crescent shortly after the shooting, which occurred around 4 pm, he said.

"Both scenes are currently being preserved pending further investigation," the spokesman added. Detectives believe the gunman was armed with a handgun.
