A 40-year-old man has been found guilty of the murder of his partner in Co Galway two years ago.

Kieran Lynch, of Francis Street, Askeaton, Co Limerick denied the murder of Catherine McEnery (35), of Feenagh, Kilmeady, Co Limerick, in Craughwell, between July 16 and 17, 2005.

The jury returned a guilty verdict by an eleven to one majority following a six and a half hours' deliberation.

Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed the mandatory life sentence for murder, backdating it to July 18, 2005, when the accused was first taken into custody.

Leave to appeal the sentence was refused.
