A man who claims a number of gardaí “beat the crap” out of him has begun a High Court action against the Garda Commissioner and Minister for Justice seeking damages for alleged assault, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution.

Michael Turner (40), a fitter/driver, Ballyogan Wood, Carrickmines, Dublin, said yesterday that he had received five stitches to a head wound as a result of an alleged assault by gardaí at the back of Dún Laoghaire Garda station.

Mr Turner also said he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the alleged incident.

The defendants deny the claims in an action before Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne and a jury which is expected to last more than two weeks.
