A garda is in hospital after rescuing a man from the River Liffey in Dublin this morning.

A garda is in hospital after rescuing a man from the River Liffey in Dublin this morning.

The garda - who is in a stable condition - was flagged down by a passer-by at Victoria Quay near Heuston Station shortly before 9am.

The garda jumped into the river to save the man, who is in a serious condition in St James's Hospital.

Both men were taken from the river by emergency services.
