A man has appeared in court in Limerick charged in connection with a robbery at the home of three pensioners last month.

William Gammell (27), An Cuirt, Monard, Co Tipperary, is charged with entering the home of the Creed family and committing burglary on May 31st at Ballyluddy, Pallasgreen, Co Limerick.

He is also charged with allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle on the same date and with aiding and abetting the commission of a serious offence, namely an aggravated burglary at Sunville House, Pallasgreen, on April 16th last by impeding the arrest of another person.

At Limerick District Court yesterday, Det Garda Michael Reidy gave evidence of arresting and formally charging the accused at Bruff Garda station on June 12th.

He said Mr Gammell made no reply to the charges.

Supt Alan Cunningham requested that Mr Gammell be remanded in custody due to the seriousness of the charges and the likelihood of further charges.

Solicitor John Cooke said his client was reserving his position with regard to bail, and applied for free legal aid.

Judge Eamon O’Brien remanded the accused in custody until next Tuesday, when he is due to appear before Limerick District Court again via video link.
