A man arrested on Saturday morning by gardai investigating the issuing of false passports, allegedly involving a serving garda, was released without charge that night. The man, who is in his 40s and from Northern Ireland, was arrested on Saturday morning in Dundalk.

It is believed he may have received one of eight false passports that gardai have recovered. It is suspected the passport was issued to him shortly after he left Northern Ireland and that it was falsely endorsed by a garda who is currently suspended from the force.
