Gardaí in Waterford are questioning an 18-year-old teenager today in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city early yesterday morning.

Gardaí arrested the man under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act yesterday evening and brought him to Waterford Garda station for questioning.

Brian O'Neill (18) of Ardmore Park, Ballybeg, Waterford, died after being stabbed a number of times in the head, neck and upper chest during a row at a party in a house on Woodlawn Green on the Cork road.

He managed to make his way out of the rented house but collapsed in the driveway of the house before the emergency services arrived.

He was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where he died later.
