Man named in suspicious Finglas death

The body of a young man discovered in Dublin this morning has been named as David Sheridan of Deanstown Avenue, in Finglas. His death is being treated as suspicious by Gardaí.

According to a Garda spokesman, the 21-year-old man who had sustained severe head injuries, was discovered at St Canice's Church in Finglas at 10.15 a.m. by a passer-by in a basement beside the building.

The man's jacket lay some distance from the body, and police sources said he appeared to have suffered a violent death.

Detective Inspector John Mulligan said: "The investigation is only in its infancy and we are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.

"We are also appealing to anybody who may have heard anything to come forward."

The Garda Forensic Bureau attended the scene and the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, is carrying out a post mortem.
