A pedestrian killed in a car accident in Athlone, Co Westmeath, last night has been named by gardaí as Mr Brendan McCormack (46).
Mr McCormack of Robin View, Annagh, Glasson, was fatally injured in the accident at Ballkeeran at 7.50pm. His body was taken to Saint Vincent's Hospital, Athlone.
Garda figures show that 62 have been people killed on the roads so far this year, two more than for the same period last year.
