A Co Meath man who sexually assaulted a woman member of the Army has been jailed for five years at the Central Criminal Court.

Ronan McIntyre (25), unemployed, Town Parks, Navan, assaulted his victim in July 1999 in Donegal after he met her at a disco. He invited her to dance, and later to go for a walk with him. Mr Justice Carney heard they walked to a beach. The defendant wanted to have sexual intercourse. When he was refused, he became violent. A night watchman at a nearby park heard her screams and alerted the gardai. McIntyre ran away and was arrested the following day at his lodgings.
