A MAN was recovering in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, yesterday after being shot in the legs. He was shot at about 3 a.m. in Darndale. Gardai, alerted by a 999 call, went to a house in Snowdrop Walk where they found the man - in his twenties - in a relative's home. He had shotgun pellets in his ankles and in the upper parts of his feet.
Detectives who interviewed him understood from the first conversation that he had been shot in an open area of the estate shortly before the 999 call. However, when they went to a house in a nearby street they found a hole in the lower part of one of the doors in the house. This appeared to have resulted from a shotgun blast.
Gardai believe the man who was shot was standing behind the door and the shot was fired at him through the door. After further interviews with the victim, detectives believe he knows who shot him and that the shooting may have been because of a personal dispute.
The shooting is not considered to be part of the series of drug related shootings and attacks which have taken place in the city recently. The man had not previously come to the attention of gardai in their investigations.
A vigilante group with republican links has issued a "hit list" of 49 people who it says are involved in the drugs trade. Three of those on the list have been shot, and one killed, in recent weeks.
